You guys should check out the movie Year of the fish, a modern day fairy tale that takes place in NYC's wonderful chinatown! The movie comes out in August and is one of the sweetest most heartfelt films of the year, check out a trailer at yearofthefish.com

Everyone who comments here is clearly NOT Chinese. I bet every single person who comments here is either white or you WANT to be white. I happen to be Chinese. Let me just let you know that you guys are embarassing yourselves.

Save it. Go find another culture to PRETEND to be interested in. This is just some fad for you. Just because white people's culture consist of Whole Foods and Yoga, doesn't mean you need to mooch off ours.

Hi Carmen!

I see that you have a passion for the Chinatown in Manhattan. I hope you will get this message since you have not updated in 3 years. A friend of mine is trying to start up a Cantonese/ Toisan Cultural Society Program to encourage those who wish to learn more about the culture and the language. I was wondering if you'd be interested in supporting the program and hopefully one day the program will have a place in Chinatown to call it it's home. If you are interested in helping this program succeed I'd like to hear from you. I am following your blog so when you respond I will get it. Thank you for your time.

I'm unfortunate enough to live in Orlando (yeah, unfortunate; psh), but on my two trips to NYC there are two places I made sure to visit:

1) Chinatown Ice Cream Factory: The absolute best ice cream place I found in the city, with some nice red bean ice cream.

2) New York Noodletown: We actually found this in a guidebook; it's just down the street from the Ice Cream Factory. Tiny place and you may end up sitting with a bunch of people you don't know, but it serves well-made, authentic Chinese cuisine for only a few dollars. You get a complimentary glass of oolong tea with your meal and a LOT of food for only a few bucks. You'll probably end up leaving with leftovers.

Amazing purchase was the Book "China in Those Days", which i bought in MOCA, the Museum of Chinese in America, haven't seen it in any book shop in the US, also not available in Amazon - great track of Chinese history and especially Overseas Chinese history, L.W. (photographer)
